Mentally challenged elderly woman raped in Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: A 60-year-old mentally challenged woman was allegedly raped by a criminal in Jobra area of Odisha’s Cuttack city in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The accused has been identified as Kalia who was released from jail three days ago, reports said. The kin of the woman lodged a complaint against Kalia at Mahila police station in this regard.

“We heard her screaming at around 3 am following which we went to the room and found the man in a naked state. He was in an inebriated condition. We tried to nab him but he fled the spot overpowering us,” a family member of the woman said.

Worth mentioning, the woman was residing with her daughter and son-in-law at a house here.

Police have started investigation into the incident. The accused was absconding till last reports came in.

Kalia has been arrested and sent to jail multiple times in the past for various offences, reports added.
