Mercury breaches 46 degree mark in Odisha’s Titlagarh

The intensity of heat wave in Odisha went beyond its limit in most places today with Titlagarh town recording the season’s highest temperature at 46.2 degree Celsius.

While Jharsuguda and Bolangir recorded 46 degree each, temperature soared to 45 degrees and above in Sambalpur (45), Hirakud (45) and Bolangir (45).

Besides, temperature shot up to 40 degrees and above in Baleswar (40.1), Chandbali (40.7), Cuttack (40), Bhubaneswar (42.7), Angul (44.7), Baripada (41.5), Keonjhar (41.7), Sundargarh (40), Talcher (44.2), Phulbani (41.6), Malkangiri (41.6), Sonepur (44.2) and Dhenkanal (42.1).

The state capital also recorded the highest temperature of the season at 42.7 degrees.

The local Met office in a release this evening said there is no possibility of recession in the heat wave till next week.

“The heat wave is due to blowing of northwesterly dry and hot wind from northwest parts of India towards the state’s coast and clear sky conditions. Apart from this, a cyclonic circulation over east-central Bay of Bengal and subsequent formation of low pressure there in 48 hours has resulted in the continuation of flow of dry and hot northwesterly wind through the Odisha coast”, said Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, Director, Indian Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar.

He also said intense humid condition would prevail in the coastal and interior region as the sea breeze may not be strong enough during the period.
