Mercury crosses 40 degree C at 18 places in Odisha; Bolangir boils at 44.4

Bhubaneswar: As many as 18 places in Odisha recorded the maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or above as heatwave condition prevailed across the state today.

Bolangir recorded the day’s highest maximum temperature of 44.4 degree C, followed by Titlagarh (44.0), said the IMD.

The maximum temperature was 43.6 at Jharsuguda and 43.5 at Bhawanipatna, added the weatherman.

The mercury crossed 42 degree C or above at 11 places across Odisha. These places are Boudh (42.9), Sambalpur (42.8), Sonepur (42.8), Malkangiri (42.8), Angul (42.7), Sundargarh (42.4), Rourkela (42.2), Bargarh (42.1), Talcher (42.0) and Nayagarh (42.0).

The maximum temperature was 41.9 at Hirakud, 40.4 at Nabarangpur and 40.0 at Bhadrak, said the IMD.

The capital city of Bhubaneswar recorded the maximum temperature of 38.4 degree C while Cuttack recorded 37.6.

“The maximum temperature is very likely to rise gradually by 2 to 3 degree C at several places across Odisha during the next 24 hours,” said the IMD in its evening bulletin today.
