Mercury crosses 40 degree C at 30 places in Odisha; Baripada hottest with 44.5

Bhubaneswar: As many as 30 places in Odisha today recorded the maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or above, said the IMD regional centre here.

Baripada in Mayurbhanj district recorded the highest maximum temperature 44.5 degree C, which is at least 6.4 degree C above the normal, said the IMD.

Nuapada is the second hottest place in Odisha with 44.4 degree C, followed by Balangir (44.0).

The mercury hovered above 43 degree C at eight places in the state. They are Boudh, Talcher, Angul, Jharsuguda, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Titlagarh and Sundargarh.

At least seven places recorded the maximum temperature of 42 degree C or above, said the IMD regional centre in its evening bulletin today. The places are Sonepur, Bhubaneswar (42.5), Bhawanipatna, Hirakud, Cuttack (42.2), Dhenkanal and Nayagarh.

The day temperature in capital Bhubaneswar was 4.6 degree above the normal while the same was 4.9 degree C above the normal at Cuttack, said the IMD.

According to the IMD, at least seven places recorded the maximum temperature of 41 degree C or above in Odisha. They are Parlakhemundi, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Deogarh, Jajpur, Keonjhar and Bhadrak.

The mercury hovered around 40 degree C or above at five places in the state. The day temperature crossed 39 degree C at three places, added the IMD.
