Mercury hovers around 40 degree C at several places in Odisha; Jharsuguda hottest with 40.4

Bhubaneswar: Jharsuguda town in Odisha today recorded the highest maximum temperature of 40.4 degree Celsius, said the IMD regional centre here in its evening bulletin.

The mercury rose to 40 degree C in Baripada. For the first time in this year, the day temperature touched 40 degree C in Odisha, said the IMD.

This apart, as many as 12 places in the state recorded maximum temperature of 39 degree C or above, added the IMD.

Four places in Odisha—Chandbali, Bhubaneswar, Angul and Sambalpur—recorded the maximum temperature of 39.7 degree C. Two places—Boudh and Malkangiri—recorded 39.5 degree C. Similarly, the maximum temperature of 39.2 degree C was recorded at two places—Titlagarh and Sonepur.

The maxium temperature was 39.1 degree C at Cuttack. Three places in Odisha—Sundargarh, Bhadrak and Jagatsingpur—recorded the maximum temperature of 39.0 degree C. The mercury crossed 38 degree C at several other places in the state, said the IMD.

The maximum temperature (day temperature) is very likely to rise gradually by 2-3 degree C over the districts of Odisha during the next two/three days, predicted the IMD.
