Mercury shoots up in Odisha; Jharsuguda sizzles at 43.4

Temperature went up alarmingly in most parts of Odisha today with mercury reaching or going beyond 40 degrees at as many as nine places.

Heat Wave TempWhile Jharsuguda sizzled with 43.4 degree Celsius, the highest in the state, temperature crossed the 40 degree mark in Angul (42.7), Sambalpur (41.1), Sundargarh (40), Hirakud (42.9), Talcher (42.8), Bhawanipatna (42.5), Bolangir (42) and Titlagarh (41.5).

Places where temperature hovered around 40 degree are Baleswar (39), Chandbali (39.2), Cuttack (38.2), Bhubaneswar (39.2), Baripada (38), Keonjhar (39.8), Phulbani (38.8), Malkangiri (39.2) and Sonepur (39.4).

In the coastal districts, intense humid conditions made life miserable for the people.

A Met release this evening said the temperature would rise further in the next 48 hours as there is no possibility of rain or thundershower in the state due to blowing of westerly wind.

“Despite possibility of Nor’wester at one or two places in the coastal districts, there would be no change in the weather condition in the next 48 hours,” it said.
