Mercury soars above 40 Degrees C at 19 places of Odisha; Boudh hottest with 42.5

Bhubaneswar: Mercury is on the rise at many places in Odisha and IMD has warned of ‘heat wave’ in the State. Nineteen places of the State witnessed day temperatures above 40 Degrees Celsius today.

Boudh recorded the highest day temperature at 42.5 Degrees Celsius, followed by Jharsuguda (42.2), Talcher (42.0), Bolangir (41.7), Bhubaneswar (41.7), Rourkela (41.6), Bhawanipatna (41.2), Cuttack (41.2), Angul (41.1), Sundargarh (41.0), Keonjhar (41.0), Titilagarh (41.0), Jajpur (41.0), Sambalpur (40.9), Dhenkanal (40.8), Sonepur (40.7), Chandbali (40.7), Bargarh (40.6), Paralakhemundi (40.4), Khordha (40.0), Nayagarh (40.0) and Hirakud (40.0).

“Due to prevailing Northwesterly and Westerly dry air and high solar insolation, the Maximum (Day) Temperature is likely to be more than 40°C and above normal by 3 to 5°C at a few places over the districts of Odisha, during the next 24 Hrs and slight fall thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha,” a special bulletin of the IMD regional centre here mentioned.

“People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 1100 IST-1500 IST,” the bulletin read.

Heat Wave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh and Sonepur with validity up to 0830 hrs IST of 16.04.2023).
