Mercury soars above 40 Degrees C at 21 places of Odisha; Baripada hottest with 44.2

Bhubaneswar: Mercury is on the rise at many places in Odisha and IMD has warned of a ‘heat wave’ in the State. Twenty-one places witnessed day temperatures above 40 Degrees Celsius today.

Baripada recorded the highest day temperature at 44.2 Degrees Celsius, followed by Boudh (43.5), Nuapada (43.5), Jharsuguda (43.4), Talcher (43.2), Sambalpur (43.2), Titilagarh (43.1), Angul (43.1), Bolangir (43.0), Sundargarh (42.8), Bhawanipatna (42.6), Rourkela (42.2), Sonepur (41.7), Hirakud (41.6), Cuttack (41.6), Dhenkanal (41.4), Paralakhemundi (41.1), Bargarh (40.8), Nayagarh (40.5), Keonjhar (40.4) and Chandbali (40.2).

“Due to prevailing Northwesterly and Westerly dry air and high solar insolation, the Maximum (Day) temperature is likely to be more than 40°C and above normal by 3 to 5°C at a few places over the districts of Odisha during the next 24 Hrs and slight fall thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha,” a special bulletin of the IMD regional centre here mentioned.

“People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 1100 IST-1500 IST,” the IMD bulletin read.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Thunderstorms with lightening very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Kandhamal. Heat Wave conditions are likely at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Sambalpur with validity from 0830 hrs IST of 18.04.2023 to 0830 hrs IST of 19.04.2023.
