Mercury soars in Odisha as 11 places touch 40 deg Celsius mark

Bhubaneswar: The western part of Odisha reeled under the impact of scorching sun as 11 stations crossed the 40 degrees Celsius mark today.

As per the evening bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Centre, Titlagarh boiled at 43.5 degree Celsius with Bolangir and Sonepur recording 43.1 and 43.0 degrees Celsius temperature, individually.

While mercury in Sambalpur soared to 42.4 degree Celsius, the temperature of Hirakud was 42.2 degree Celsius.

Furthermore, the degrees of heat in Tacher, Angul and Bhawanipatna was found to be 41.3, 41.1 and 41.0 Celsius, respectively.

Mercury hovered at 40.5, 40.2 and 40.0 degrees Celsius in Jharsuguda, Phulbani and Malkangiri, separately.

On the other hand, despite the heat, thunderstorm alert was issued for one or two parts of Bolangir, Malkangiri and Angul districts in the afternoon today.
