Meritorious girl student deprived of study due to poverty in Odisha

Kandhamal: Even after launch of several welfare schemes by the government for poor students in Odisha, all appear to be defunct as a meritorious girl student from Kandhamal district having 91% in annual Matric examination could not continue her study further due to acute poverty.

The incident was reported from Bahulamaha village in Midiakia panchayat under Baliguda block in Kandhamal district where Senapati Digala’s dream to make her daughter highly educated remained unfulfilled as he could not afford to bear her daughter’s admission fee into Plus Two course.

According to reports, Karishma, a meritorious student who secured A1 grade in matriculation this year had to stop her study midway as she could not get admission into Plus Two due to poverty.

She had aspired to study Plus Two in science stream and to help his father, who is a daily labourer, in earning high salary. She was dreaming to assist her siblings in their studies. However, all her hopes were transformed into a day dream and she is now engaged in collecting sal (shorea robusta) seeds, mangoes and jackfruit seeds from a forest near her house to help his father financially.

Recently, Karishma, the elder daughter of Senapati, was felicitated in matric champions ceremony organised by Sambad Group in Berhampur. However, she could continue her study further due to poor financial condition of her father.

If the government assistance will be made for her to continue her study, she can meet her dreams, hoped the villagers.
