Bhubaneswar, July 31:
Mesco Integrated Steel Limited (MISL), one of the earliest companies to evince interest in the steel sector in Odisha, proposes to embark on a major expansion drive that would take its finished steel capacity to 3.5 million ton per annum (MTPA). It currently runs a pig iron plant in Kalinganagar in Jajpur district with a capacity of 1.2 MTPA.
“The expansion of capacity would involve additional investment of Rs 8, 000 crore,” MISL Chairman JK Singh told reporters after emerging from a meeting with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here today. He said he had come to invite the Chief Minister for the inauguration of the expansion project.
Singh said he was hopeful that the Odisha government would make arrangements for supply of adequate raw material for the expanded capacity.
MISL’ pig iron plant in Kalinganagar, commissioned in 2005, currently produces iron ore fines and calibrated lump ore, besides pig iron.
