Middle-aged woman burnt alive after her house catches fire in Odisha’s Balasore

Basta: A middle-aged woman was burnt alive today as her kutcha house caught fire and was later reduced to ashes in Kudamansingh village under Baliapal police limits in Balasore district.

The deceased was identified as Jayanti Barik, who was residing in an isolated house in the village.

According to a source, Jayanti was married but was alone at her home when the inferno occurred. It has not been ascertained yet whether someone set the house on fire or a blaze took place due to any other reason. The fire gradually spread to all parts of the house and engulfed it within a fraction of a second.

“Jayanti’s kutcha house was completely gutted in the fire mishap,” an eyewitness expressed.

On being informed by some locals, a team of Baliapal police reached the spot and seized the woman’s body, and sent it to a nearby hospital for post-mortem. Police have launched a probe into the woman’s death.

“Actual cause behind the death can be confirmed only after a detailed probe,” a senior cop said.
