Amid lockdown, migrant woman worker abandons newborn on roadside in Odisha

Rourkela: In a heart-rending incident, a migrant woman worker abandoned her newborn boy on roadside of the Biju Expressway in Sana Nuagaon in Vedavyas today amid the lockdown.

Locals said the migrant woman worker, who came from Jharkhand along with her family, went into labour near Sana Nuagaon and gave birth to a healthy baby boy on the roadside. Instead of carrying the newborn, the woman left behind the baby on the roadside and moved towards Chhattisgarh with her family. Villagers then rescued the newborn and informed the Childline.

After getting the information, officials of the Childline reached the village and admitted the newborn to the Rourkela Hospital.

An official said the newborn has been kept at the Bisra Childline home after the medical examination.
