Berhampur: A migrant worker from Odisha died of COVID-19 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Gujarat today.
The 27-year-old was a resident of Baduka village under Dharakote block in Ganjam district.
The youth, who was working in a textile company in Surat, was admitted to a COVID-19 hospital in Surat after he developed flu-like symptoms. He was hospitalized on May 11 post noon.
However, his conditioned worsened and he breathed his last today afternoon while undergoing treatment.
“It is very sad that my uncle passed away today. His swab tests were positive owing which he was undergoing treatment. But, doctors declared him dead today," a nephew of the deceased said.
He died of septicemia with septic shock with COVID19 positive bilateral pneumonitis with subcutaneous emphysema, sources said.
The deceased had migrated to Surat to eke out a living one year back. He was staying in a shared accommodation at Dharti Nagar in the industrial town.
A pall of gloom descended on the village after the incident. He is survived by his father, mother, wife and a two-year-old child.
