Jharsuguda/Keonjhar: WIth the minimum temperature dropped significantly across Odisha in past two days under influence of western disturbance, several towns in the state witnessed mild frost this morning.

Intense cold conditions have been reported in Jharsuguda district affecting normal life here. As the mercury dipped to 5.8 degree Celsius on Saturday morning, the mild frost was found on the farmland at Laikera area.

Today was the coldest winter in Jharsuguda this year. The cold wave condition may further intensify in upcoming days, said an environmentalist and former academician Dhruba Raj Nayak said.

As the north India is shivering in intense cold, the light frost was also seen in several areas in Keonjhar district in the morning today. The residents enjoyed the chilly morning with the first mild frost in Joda and Kanjipani Ghat. The temperature in Keonjhargarh recorded 5.6 degree C on Saturday morning.

Similarly, the mild frost was also witnessed at Koida area in Sundargarh district, where the temperature declined to 10.0 degree Celsius today.

While the minimum temperature in Daringbadi was recorded 7 degree Celsius, mercury in Phulbani stood at 10.5 degree Celsius in past 24 hours.

Sonepur district recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 4.0 degree C, becoming the coldest station in Odisha followed by Keonjhargarh and Jharsuguda.

Besides, three other places in the state recorded the minimum temperature below 8 degree C today. While Balasore recorded the minimum temperature of 7.6 degree C, Sambalpur 7.4 degree C and Titilagarh 7.0 degree C. Similarly, Angul stood at 8.0 degree C, Baripada 8.5 degree C, and Hirakud 9.8 degree C. The Twin City Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded the minimum temperature of 9.6 and 12.0 degree C respectively in the morning.
