Mild tremors felt across Odisha

Mild tremors were experienced in various places of Odisha this evening between 7:27 and 7:29 PM.

As per reports, the tremors were felt in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Angul and Balasore among other places.

Even though residents were seen running out of their houses in panic, there have been no report of loss of life and property in the state because of the earthquake so far.

“The epicenter of the earthquake has been traced to Myanmar. The tremor was measured 6.8 on the Richter scale and struck at a depth of 134 km. The primary wave of the tremor was felt here at about 7.27 PM and the secondary wave hit at about 7:29 PM in Odisha,” said Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Office Director Sarat Chandra Sahu.

“There is nothing to worry. Aftershocks are not expected in Odisha unless they exceed 6.0 on the Richter scale in the epicenter,” he assured.

Notably, strong tremors were also felt in east Indian city of Guwahati and other north-eastern states that are nearer to Myanmar. Besides, mild tremors were felt at a distance as far as Delhi.
