Minor among two gun runners arrested in Cuttack

The Commissionerate police on Thursday claimed to have busted a gun running racket having links with the neighbouring states of Bihar and Jharkhand after arresting two persons, including a minor boy.

During a raid in the Chahata area of the city, police arrested two persons including a minor boy from Bihar on Wednesday night and seized pistols and bullets from their possession.

Briefing newsmen, City Police Commissioner RK Sharma said a team of city police raided a hideout under the Bidanasi police station and arrested a youth from Bihar along with a city youth and seized three pistols and six live bullets from their possession.

Commissioner Sharma said each set of pistol and two bullets were up for sale for prices ranging from Rs 37,000 to Rs 45,000. The youth from Bihar was trying to sell the arms and ammunitions to prospective buyers. He added more arrests could not be ruled as further investigations are on.

The arrests are significant in view of the ensuing Durga puja celebrations in the city, said police sources.
