Watching cricket match turns fatal for Odisha boy as lightning strike kills him

Nabarangpur: A minor boy was charred to death after being stuck by lightning while returning to his house after watching a cricket match at Majhiguda village under Papadahandi block in Nabarangpur district today.

The deceased has been identified as Narasingha Majhi, son of one Ramadhar Majhi of Sunadangari village in the district.

Sources said the minor had gone to Mjahiguda village to watch a cricket match. When he was returning to his house at around 3 pm, heavy rain accompanied with lightning occurred. The boy collapsed on the ground after a lightning struck him midway. After a while, few locals of Majhiguda village rushed him to Papadahandi Community Health Centre (CHC) by an ambulance. However, doctors  declared him dead.

Meanwhile, villagers have requested the district administration to provide compensation for family members of the deceased.

Besides, six other persons lost their lives due to lightning in the state. The deceased six include two women from Dhenkanal, a farmer of Balikuda in Jagatsinghpur and three from Keonjhar, Kendrapada and Cuttack districts.
