Minor boy dies of snakebite, mother succumbs to heart attack on seeing body in Odisha

Sundargarh: In an extremely tragic turn of events, a woman succumbed to heart attack minutes after her minor son died of snakebite in Rajgangpur tehsil of Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Friday.

The incident took place at Dhengurpani village under Budhamba panchayat. The deceased were identified as Sukanti Kujur and her six year old son Gyandeep.

As per reports, Gyandeep was playing in the field when he got bitten by a venomous snake. Seeing him collapse, locals rushed him to Rajgangpur community health centre but doctors declared him brought dead. However, villagers refused to believe that the boy had died and in a desperate measure to revive him, brought the body back to carry out an exorcism.

But on seeing her son’s body, Sukanti was unable to come to terms with the loss. She suddenly complained of pain in her chest and fell unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital but doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Police on getting information reached the spot. Two cases of un-natural death have been registered and investigation underway. The exact cause of death will be established after the postmortem reports arrive, official sources said.
