Minor boy drowns while taking bath in Budha river in Odisha’s Jajpur

Jajpur: A minor boy met his watery grave today morning while taking a bath in Budha river, a tributary of the Baitarani river, in Odisha’s Jajpur district. A friend of the boy had gone missing and was later rescued by some locals.

The deceased was identified as 14-year-old Lipun Jena, who belonged to Sana Suara locality.

According to a police source, Lipun had previously come to his maternal aunt’s house to witness Laxmi Puja celebrations in the town. He went to the river along with one of his friends leading to the fatal mishap. The legs of the two slipped as a result Lipun drowned and his friend went missing.

However, Lipun’s friend was rescued after striving for nearly an hour, some locals said. He was taken to hospital where doctors declared him ‘dead’.

On being informed, local police reached the hospital and seized Lipun’s body and launched a probe into his death.

In another incident today, a 50-year-old man fell off the bridge at Jobra anicut in Cuttack City. He was identified as Tutu Das from Majhi Sahi in Jobra locality. The mishap occurred when the man was fishing on the bridge and fell into Mahanadi river.

Tutu sustained grievous injuries on his legs and head in the incident. Later, he was rescued by a team of fire services personnel and was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
