Minor girl critical after being hit by BDO’s car in Odisha’s Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: A 12-year-old girl sustained critical injuries after she was reportedly hit by a vehicle carrying the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Niali in Cuttack district of Odisha today.

The girl sustained fractures in her right leg and was immediately rushed to Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTAR) at Olatpur.

The incident took place while Niali BDO Ullash Chandra Sethi and another senior official were on their way to the block office in the morning.

The vehicle hit the girl and rammed into a scooter parked near the Sub-Treasury office at Nuagaon when the driver lost control over it, sources said.

The girl was going to a nearby shop when she was hit by the BDO’s car. On being informed, the police reached the spot and launched a probe into the mishap.

“The speeding car ran over the girl’s leg and rammed into my scooter parked near the Sub-Treasury office after the driver lost control over the vehicle. My scooter was completely damaged in the incident. The girl was rushed to SVNIRTAR in a critical condition,” said Prashant Kumar Mahapatra, a local.
