Minor girl drowned, sister goes missing in Baitarani river

Keonjhar: In a tragic incident, a minor girl drowned and another girl went missing while taking bath in Baitarani river near Goudadiha Ghat in Anandapur of Keonjhar district today.

The deceased has been identified as Jayashree Patra, a Class-V student. Search operation was on to trace the other girl identified as Preetirani Patra, a Class-VI student, till last reports came in.

The incident took place at around 8.30 AM when the two along with their elder sister had gone to the river to take bath. Later, Preetirani and Jayashri slipped and fell into deep water while taking bath whereas their elder sister rushed to the house and informed her family about the incident.

Later, fire brigade staff along with locals launched a search operation. While the body of Jayashree was recovered from the water body, Preetirani is yet to be traced, sources added.
