Minor girl gang raped in Odisha; one detained

Gangrape of a minor girl by three persons in Kaupada under Derabish police limits in Odisha’s Kendrapara district has sent shockwaves in the area.

Though the incident took place on Monday it came to light after it was reported to the police by the victim’s parents today.

Police have registered a case (39/17) and have detained one of the accused for questioning.

According to police sources, on Monday early in the morning while the victim was picking flowers for puja, her neighbours -Baya Mallick, Bani Mallick and Kalia Mallick gagged her with a towel in her mouth and allegedly gang raped her in a nearby cattle shed.

The accused had warned the victim of dire consequences if she revealed about the incident to anyone.

Scared, the victim had not revealed anything to her parents but had later attempted to commit suicide.

She was admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Derabish as her condition had deteriorated.

After getting well, the victim narrated the shocking incident to her parents following which the latter lodged an FIR with Derabish police.

While police have got the victim medically examined, they have detained Baya Mallick, one of the accused for questioning.
