According to reports, locals spotted the accused with the minor girl in Harirajpur area in a suspicious state. They nabbed him and handed over to the local police.

The girl identified as Sony (name changed) hails from Mahiskhala in Badagada area of the city. The girl was abducted on October 6 while she was playing near her house. Following this, a missing complaint was filed with the local police the next day.

“He called me while I was playing near a heap of sand and took me along with him,” Sony narrated.

The abductor – Sankar Bhoi from Sinduria village in Nayagarh district — confessed to his crime and said that he used to engage the children in begging activities.

“My wife and I are daily wage earners. As usual, we had gone to work on that day. After returning from work at around 8 pm, we didn’t find her despite frantic search. We got our daughter after 10 days,” victim’s father said.

Notably, Bhoi was earlier arrested in a kidnapping case in Jatni. He was sent to jail on June 11 in connection with this case. After release from jail on bail, he was again upto his earlier business.

“The accused kidnaps minors and employes them in begging on trains. A racket might be involved in this crime. The rescued child has been handed over to Badagada police where the missing complaint was registered,” Harirajpur police outpost staff, Bidyadhar Bhol said.
