Four fire tenders were pressed into service to contain the fire. The fire officials acted promptly to minimise the damage to the premier hospital and bring the fire under control.

The indoor patients were evacuated from the entire building of the new hospital and moved to safety.

However, hospital authorities have confirmed of a 12-year-old boy dying in the incident while shifting.

The entire area was engulfed with smoke billowing from the building.

Firemen led by chief fire officer Sukant Sethi were engaged to extinguish the fire.

While the real cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, electrical short circuit in the air conditioners installed in the operation theatre is being suspected as the possible cause of the fire.

Firemen broke open the false ceiling of the third floor of the building to trace the cause of the fire.
