Minor tribal girl found hanging in Odisha school hostel; probe begins

Bhubaneswar: A Class-IX girl was found hanging under mysterious circumstances at the hostel of a residential school in Odisha’s Malkangiri district today.

The incident took place at Madhusudan High School at Motu under Kalimela block. The deceased was a resident of Ginipali village in the locality, sources said.

The girl, a tribal, was staying at a hostel of the government-run school, located close to Odisha’s border with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. She was found hanging at her hostel today morning, sources said.

On being informed, Motu police reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident.

“The girl was staying in a 100-bed hostel meant for ST students. Her health condition was fine. She ate breakfast and was about to go to the classroom. But, she was found hanging on the hostel premises,” said matron Kanaklata Kunj.

The locals, meanwhile, urged the district administration to launch a high-level probe to find out the reason behind the girl’s death.
