Miraculous escape for picnickers as SUV falls into 50-feet-deep gorge

Mohana: A major mishap was averted after a SUV carrying picnickers from Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district skidded off the road and fell into a 50-feet deep gorge at Marlaba ghat under Raigad police limits in Gajapati district today.

Though no casualty was reported, eight passengers sustained injuries in the mishap.

Sources said the passengers were returning to Bhanjanagar in a Bolero vehicle after a picnic in Gandahati in Gajapati. The incident took place when the driver of the vehicle lost control, following which it skidded off the road   and fell into the gorge.

All the injured persons were later rescued and admitted to Khajuripada hospital for treatment.
