In an incident that speaks volumes about the growing audacity of antisocial and their falling fear of the law and the law enforcement agencies, a drunken youth attacked a traffic constable with a bhujali after being intercepted for a traffic violation in Odisha capital on Friday night.

Police sources said the drunken man, along with another companion, tried to jump the signal in Nyapalli police limits on Friday night. When a traffic cop, identified as Ajit Kumar Dalei, asked him to stop, the miscreants abused him while one of them attacked his left hand with a bhujali. The traffic constable was rushed to a private hospital.
Nayapalli police station Inspector-in-charge Suryamani Pradhan said immediately after the incident, the miscreants fled from the spot, but left their motorcycle bearing registration number- OR-02-N-8426 behind. The vehicle has now been seized, Pradhan said.
"We are investigating the matter and will nab the miscreants soon," the IIC said.
