Miscreants chop off youth’s palms

In a gory incident on Sunday evening in Palligumla village under Gopalpur police limits, unknown miscreants chopped off both the palms of a youth after hacking him with swords.

Around 5 o’ clock in the evening, the miscreants launched a murderous assault on Sunil Mahakud (27) and left him in a pool of blood near the village mandap. After being rescued by his family members, he was rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Brahmapur. He was later shifted to a hospital in Visakhapatnam as his condition turned critical.

Preliminary investigations suggested old rivalry could be behind the assault. A manhunt to nab the culprits has been launched, police said.
Sunil, who works as a driver with the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC), was on his way to his home from Brahmapur when he received a call on his mobile phone asking him to come to the village mandap.

On reaching there, he was attacked with swords by two youths. As he tried to flee the spot, one of the youths attacked his right leg with a sword following which he fell on the ground. Later, the two assailants brutally chopped off Sunil’s palms and fled the spot on bikes.
The incident has left the villagers shell-shocked.
