Dhenkanal: Miscreants allegedly looted huge amount of cash and gold jewelries worth Rs 2.5 crore from Mahabirod branch of Odisha Gramya Bank here in the district.

Equipped with firearms and fatal weapons, four dacoits stormed the bank located under Mahabirod police limits in Dhenkanal district before the lunch hour and looted gold ornaments and over Rs 1 lakh cash by locking all staff of the bank inside a room.

This is the second dacoity from Odisha Gramya Bank in broad daylight less than a month after upgradation of Mahabirod Police Outpost into the police station in the district.

On January 9, some miscreants had looted Rs 15 lakh cash from manager of a company in front of Lodhani branch of Odisha Gramya Bank under Parjang police limits in the district. However, the police are yet to crack the bank dacoity case.
