Miscreants ransack trucks, loot drivers in Odisha’s Cuttack

Tangi: Unidentified miscreants allegedly ransacked as many as 11 trucks and looted cash from the drivers of the vehicles near Nimeisapur petrol pump in Tangi area of Cuttack district, last night.

According to reports, the trucks were parked near the petrol pump when the miscreants threatened the drivers with sharp weapons and looted Rs 5 lakh from them. The drivers were critically injured in the attack.

The villagers and the truck owners had a dispute over the illegal parking of the vehicles on the main road. The truck owners along with the drivers have lodged a police complaint after the loot incident.

“The driver telephoned me around 2.30 am and informed me about the loot. When I reached the spot, the miscreants had absconded after vandalizing eleven trucks,” a truck owner said.

“We had informed the police about the illegal parking near the petrol pump as well as from Manguli to Pasupati Gada. The matter was also raised in a ‘Mo Sarkar’ meeting, but no action was taken by the administration. Few irate locals have ransacked the vehicles,” a local said.

After receiving information, Tangi police reached the spot and started investigating into the matter.
