Miscreants thrash constables for stopping liquor-laden vehicle in Odisha

Excise sleuths staged a protest today in front of the department office here following attack on two excise constables, who were beaten black and blue in Kendrapara district of Odisha yesterday while trying to stop an illegal liquor loaded vehicle, which was seized later.

According to reports, six unidentified youths were carrying illegal India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in a TATA ACE vehicle having registration no OD-29 A 5963 in Karilopatna area under Marsaghai block in the evening yesterday.

On being informed about the illegal liquor trading, two constables of excise department, identified as Jagannath Betra and Debakanta Acharya, chased the vehicle to intercept it.

However, the six youths attacked the duo beating black and blue.

Other excise officials rushed to the spot after being informed about the incident by the constables, following which the miscreants fled away leaving the liquor loaded vehicle.

Excise sleuths seized the vehicle loaded with 286 liters of IMFL and a bike from the spot.

Protesting against the attack of bootleggers, excise officials and employees staged a protest in front of the department office this morning which was later called off after administration’s interference.

The owner of the vehicle is yet to be identified, said excise inspector Laxmikanta Mahapatra.
