Mishap at Rourkela Steel Plant kills worker, injures another

Rourkela: A mishap at the Captive Power Plant (CPP)-1 of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) here today claimed the life of a contractual worker and left another critically injured.

The deceased has been identified as Amar Kumar Panda of Subaspali, Sector-5 here. Sushil Kumar Deogram, who was grievously injured in the accident, was admitted to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) here for treatment.

According to reports, the mishap took place at the CPP-1 around 11.30 am when the two were cleaning the pipeline. An explosion took place in the pipeline, following which a piece of iron pipe fell on the duo.

They were rescued in a critical condition and rushed to the IGH, where Amar succumbed to injuries during treatment.

Expressing grief over the tragic incident, several labour unions have demanded adequate compensation for the family of the deceased and job at RSP for one of the family members.

The concerned authorities of the RSP have started an investigation into the incident.
