Mismatch in COVID-19 test reports spark row

Bhubaneswar: With number of COVID-19 positive cases registering a steep rise in the Odisha capital in last few days, conflicting reports have left denizens in a spot.

Two individuals, who had tested COVID-19 positive in test done by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), decided to go for a confirmatory test at a private healthcare facility. To their utter surprise, they tested negative.

As per reports, the BMC, on Wednesday, had carried out COVID-19 testing of residents in Kancha Sahi  near Kapileswar temple under Lingaraj police limits. Reports of 21 residents of Kancha Sahi were found to be positive on Saturday. Suspecting error in testing, two of the 21 persons again went for swab test at a private hospital. Surprisingly, the duo tested negative for the virus.

While locals in Kancha Sahi are in panic after detection of the positive cases, swab samples of 20 more persons were collected on Saturday.  Also, the BMC sanitised the entire area.

Meanwhile, the BMC authorities sent 10 out of the 21 persons to Covid hospital for treatment.

Earlier, a 33-year-old resident of the area first tested positive for the deadly virus. Following this, the BMC collected swab samples of people who had come in contact with him.
