Sharif’s mobile phone was found to have been switched on for two seconds at Allahabad on November 26 morning and for a short while later the same evening. But no transaction has so far been made on his ATM card, said police sources.

The tracing of the mobile phone has given strength to the kidnap angle. A team from CP would soon be dispatched to Allahabad to try and trace the missing IBM officer, the sources said.

Meanwhile, a police team, under the supervision of the Commissioner Dr RP Sharma, visited Sharif’s office in Chandrashekharpur on Thursday and seized the hard disk of his computer in the hope that it may provide some clue into the reason for his disappearance.

Sharma talked to Sharif’s wife Salma Begun and tried to ascertain if some family problem or tension or threat at the workplace could have led to Sharif’s sudden disappearance.

Speaking to media persons for the first time after her husband went missing, Salma said; “I appeal to him to return immediately if he has gone of his own volition. If he is being held captive by some people, I appeal to them to release him soon.” She denied that there were any family problems.
