‘Missing IBM official wanted to end his life’

Bhubaneswar, Mar 30:

The Odisha-based IBM official Ibrahim Sharif who had gone missing for over four months tried to end his life, sources in the Commissionerate Police said on Saturday .

Sharif who was interrogated by the police on Friday reportedly told the police that he wanted to commit suicide because of the “pressure” of the workload at his office. He however did not spell out the nature of the “pressure” in clear terms. sources said.Ibrahim Sharif 1

Sharif who had gone missing since November 25 last year had returned home here on Friday morning said during the interrogation that he had thought of ending his life by consuming pesticides, said police sources.

He had cited “heavy work load at his office” was the prime reason behind his motivation to kill himself, the sources added.

“We have to verify his statements and version to ascertain whether it is correct or not,” said twin city Commissioner of Police Dr R P Sharma without divulging the details of what Sharif had actually told his interrogators.

Stating that Sharif’ stayed at different places in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the last four months, Dr Sharma said his statements can not be taken as the truth.

“We will investigate the truth behind his statement and find out why a man who decided to end his life chose to return home did not do so and instead returned home after a long gap of  four months,” Dr Sharma added.

On the other hand Sharif’s wife Salma Begum said her husband had gone into a state of depression after his return and not opening himself up before the family members.

“We are not forcing him to do any sort of work at home and praying to  god  to help him recover from depression and become normal as soon as possible,” she said.
