MLA Prabhat Biswal declines to contest Odisha Elections 2019

Bhubaneswar: Choudwar MLA Prabhat Biswal declined to contest the upcoming Assembly polls in Odisha citing his decision as ‘personal’.

In a letter to Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Supremo Naveen Patnaik, he said that he will be away from the politics till final verdict by the court on his alleged involvement in chit fund scam.

However, he will remain with the party and will work for it whatever responsibility will be given to him.

He clarified that the CBI had conspired to drag his name in the multi-crore ponzi scam. He refuted chit fund allegation terming it as ‘imaginary and ‘baseless’.

He alleged that CBI was used to defame him as well as his party.

Sources said that the legislator is certainly following the footstep of his party colleague Pravat Tripathy, who denied contesting the polls and recommended his son for the ticket from Banki Assembly constituency.

The speculations are on rife that Prabhat Biswal is making strong lobby for his son Souvik Biswal to be party’s candidature for the elections from Choudwar-Cuttack Assembly seat.

When asked about his reported proposal to Naveen Patnaik for his son to get ticket, he said, “Souvik is already active in politics. The decision will be taken by the party supremo.”

“Each Assembly seat is important for the party. The party is making a survey to field its winnable candidates for the upcoming polls. If Souvik falls under that category, let the party chief take the decision,” Biswal told media.
