Puri: Mobile phones will not be allowed for servitors on chariots during Bahuda Jatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri, said Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee.

After taking charge as the SJTA head today, he told reporters, "No mobile phone can be used, and the servitors cannot click pictures of deities or selfies."

"Stern action will be taken against those indulging in indiscipline while conducting rituals of deities.

In the wake of Adapa Mandap Bije mishap in which the idol of Lord Balabhadra slipped on the makeshift staircase while descending from Taladhwaja chariot on July 9, Padhee said that focus will be laid on conducting and streamlining rituals properly. The temple administration and district administration will work in coordination for the smooth conduct of rituals.

On the presence of unauthorised servitors on chariots, the SJTA chief said, "There are some reports that some unauthorised servitors are climbing chariots. We are discussing with servitors of various Nijogs in this regard. A meeting will be held to take a final call."

He said that all Nijogs are expected to coordinate with the temple administration.

"We hope they will cooperate not to malign our culture," Padhee said.
