A 32-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped on Tuesday by three men in Odisha’s Keonjhar district after being invited by a man to cement a relationship which had started with a missed call.

As per reports, the victim, a divorcee and a mother of two hailing from Sahaarpada under Patna police station limits, fell in love with one Rabi Patra from Majigaon in Jharkhand, who works as a labourer in a private company at Deojhar here. It all started with a missed call. They befriended each other and romanced over telephone.

After chatting over phone for a few days, Rabi asked Sunita (name changed) to come down to his place on Monday and spend the night with him. She accepted the invite and boarded a bus from Saharpada to Keonjhar. At around 6 PM, Rabi and one of his friends Ramadhan Mundari, who picked her up from the bus stand, boarded another bus to Bileipada with her.

The trio alighted at Bileipada and left for the house of one Mansingh Munda, who is said to be Rabi’s friend, in Sialijoda village. Sunita was offered an independent room in Munda’s house.

However, in the middle of the night, Rabi knocked the doors to wake Sunita up. Unaware of his sinful designs, she opened the door. Rabi and his two friends then forced themselves into the room and gang raped her.

After committing the heinous crime, the tormentors abandoned her and fled the spot at around 3 AM. The distressed woman moved out of the house and waited till dawn to reach Bileipada square fearing more trouble.

In the wee hours, she approached the Bileipada police out-post and lodged a complaint.

“The victim’s medical examination was done at Barbil Hospital and investigation is on,” Joda police staion IIC Saroj Kumar Mohapatra said.

Acting on the complaint, police have detained Rabi Patra and his partners in crime and launched an investigation into the incident.
