MoBus to ply in Rourkela soon!

Bhubaneswar: Good news for denizens in Rourkela as the ‘MoBus’ is likely to ply in the Steel City very soon.

The MoBus service provided by the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) will be available soon in Rourkela through a tour operator.

Sources said that a tender has been invited to select the tour operator for launching the MoBus service in Rourkela. The CRUT is planning to make the service available in the city by December this year.

As per the plan, at least 100 buses (70 AC and 30 Non-AC buses) will ply in the city in first phase. The service will be available on routes under Rourkela Municipal Corporation and on the city outskirts. Later, the service will be extended to places adjoining the district headquarters in view of public demand.

Sources said that the CRUT has fixed October 27 as the last date for different tour operators for filing the applications in the tender process. The technical proposal will be placed on the same day. The operator will sign a contract to offer the MoBus service in Rourkela for a period of eight years. The tour operator will launch the service on the basis of ‘gross cost contract’. The contract will be extended and renewed for another two years after reviewing the condition of the vehicles and quality services to be offered by the concerned tour operator. The buses will be registered under the name of tour operator.

According to reports, the population of Rourkela with an area of 195 square km stands at around 6.5 lakh. Due to the presence of steel plant and other employment opportunities, the population of the city continues to grow. Currently, the Sundargarh Urban Transport Trust (SUTT) is providing city bus services in the city.
