Modi to miss Jharkhand oath taking due to fog

New Delhi, Dec 28:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he won’t be able to attend the oath taking ceremony of Jharkhand’s new chief minister Raghubar Das Sunday due to bad weather.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi addressing at the inaugural ceremony of the Mananeeya Eknath Ranade Janm Shati Parva, in New Delhi on November 09, 2014.“I would like to congratulate Raghubar Das on taking over as Jharkhand CM and convey my best wishes to him,” Modi said in a tweet.

“Was to travel to Jharkhand to attend the oath taking ceremony but am unable to do so due to weather conditions,” he added.

Sunday was the season’s coldest day in the national capital at 2.6 degrees Celsius. This was accompanied by a thick fog which reduced visibility to less than 50 metres at most places.

Modi said the people of Jharkhand had voted for stability. “I congratulate them and pray that Jharkhand scales new heights of progress in the coming years.”

Jharkhand will get its first non-tribal chief minister Sunday when veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader Das, 60, will take oath.

The BJP and the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) are to form a coalition government in Jharkhand.
