Prime Minister Narendra Modi today sanctioned an ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the persons killed in the fire accident at the Sum Hospital in the Odisha capital on Monday, PMO said.

Further, Modi has also sanctioned Rs 50,000 from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to each of the persons, who got seriously injured in the fire accident, it added.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of deceased.
Patnaik had also announced on Monday that expenses for treatment of those injured in the incident would be borne by the state government from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Vice Chancellor of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University Prof Amit Banerjee of which Sum Hospital is a constituent institute had yesterday announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased while earlier the hospital authorities had announced to bear the treatment expenses of patients relocated to other hospitals
Notably, as many as 19 patients were killed in the hospital and over a hundred were injured in the major fire at the hospital on the fateful day.
In the meanwhile, three more have succumbed taking the death toll to 21 till date.
