Bhubaneswar: Crime against women has increased significantly in Odisha as the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in its 'Crime in India-2019' report placed the state at second spot after Uttar Pradesh in terms of cases relating to molestation of women.

As per the report, a total of 20,274 cases of crime against women were registered in 2018 while the figure increased to 23,183 in 2019 in the state. As many as 11,318 molestation cases were registered in the state, last year. It included 2818 victims who were assaulted with the intent to disrobe, the report said.

The state also registered 1383 rape cases with the victims being above 18 years of age and 1505 child rape cases in 2019, it said.

Cyber crime in the state also showed an increasing trend as 843 cyber crime cases were registered in 2018 and the same mounted to 1485 in 2019, an increase of nearly 76 percent.

A total of 397 cases were registered in the state in 2019 in connection with publication and transmission of sexually explicit materials, the report said.
