Monsoon session of Odisha Assembly to be held before Sept 30

Bhubaneswar: Amidst COVID-19 pandemic, the next session of Odisha Assembly will be held before September 30, informed Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro today.

The last session was held on March 30 this year. As per the rule, the next session should be held within six months. Accordingly, the House should be in session before deadline of September 30, he said.

Recently, the Assembly supreme had consulted with the Speaker of Rajasthan where the session has started 3 days ago. He also talked to the Karnataka Speaker to make way for holding of the session during the pandemic.

“I have spoken to my Rajasthan and Karnataka counterparts over holding of the Assembly session during COVID-19 pandemic. Even I consulted with the Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha secretaries in this regard. All raised the concern on maintaining social distancing in the House. Therefore, we are calculating whether the session could be held by maintaining social distancing in Assembly. During the period, we will fix the date for the session after consulting with the Chief Minister and Governor of Odisha,” Patro said.

However, the venue for Monsoon session is yet to be finalised.

“The venue for holding of the next session has not been decided till now. It will be finalised soon,” said the Speaker.
