Monsoon withdraws from entire Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from entire Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.

Conditions are very likely to become favourable for further withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from the entire country during the next 48 hours, it said.

On the other hand, yesterday’s low pressure area over north Andaman Sea and southeast Bay of Bengal persisted over the same region this morning. The system is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm over westcentral and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal by October 24.

It is likely to move north-northeastwards and reach near West Bengal-Bangladesh coast on October 25, skirting Odisha coast.

The Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued heavy rainfall warning for several districts of Odisha in connection with the predicted cyclone. The system will be named as Cyclone Sitrang after it intensifies into a cyclonic storm.
