Nayagarh: In a tragic incident, a woman and her minor daughter drowned in a pond while bathing at Gholahandi village under Daspalla police limits in Odisha's Nayagarh district, today.

The deceased were identified as Reena Pradhan (28) and her daughter Barsha (12).

According to reports, the two were taking bath in the pond in the afternoon, during which the girl slipped into deep water and drowned. Her mother also met the same fate as she tried to rescue the girl.

They were declared dead at the Daspalla Community Health Centre.

Police have recovered the bodies for post-mortem.

Dussehra celebrations turned sour in the village as a pall of gloom descended on the locality after the unfortunate incident.
