The child was yesterday rescued by Cuttack child line from kaibalya Nagar under Chaulia Ganj of the town based on the complaint by a neighbor.

Following the rescue and a medical examination, instances of sexual assault and physical torture were validated. She is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital and her condition is said to be stable now.

“I had not seen the kid since last 3-4 days. Today I got suspicious and called up the child line,” said the neighbor Rajalaxmi Rout.

“After being rescued, the girl said that her uncle (an acquaintance of her mother) asked her to undress in the presence of her mother. When she refused, both her mother and her uncle beat her up,” she added.

Based on the complaint by the child line, the accused uncle identified as Raju Biswal has been taken into police custody. The man has also confessed to the crime. Both the minor and the accused have agreed that the incident happened in the presence and consent of the child’s mother.

Another neighbor Kalyani Mallick confirmed the allegation of physical torture.

“The child used to visit our home regularly. I used to feed them like my own children. Of late she had been complaining that her mother used to beat her up whenever she visited our home. Besides, her mother used to pick quarrels with me,” said Mallick.

Terming the incident ‘insane’, Cuttack Collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra announced to provide for the medical expenses and arrange for rehabilitation on behalf of the government.

“The main accused has been taken into police custody. I have asked concerned officials to arrange for free medical treatment at SCB. The child, most probably doesn’t want to go back to her home. We will arrange her a Child Care Institution (CCI) once she recovers,” said Mishra.
