Bhubaneswar: At least four persons, including a mother-son duo, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Odisha today.
In the first incident, lightning struck Durubati Halaba, wife of Lingaraj Halaba, and her son Dipak Halaba (20) of Anchala village under Borigumma block in Koraput district when they were working in the farmland in the morning.
Locals rescued the mother-son in a critical condition and rushed them to a nearby hospital. However, the duo was declared dead on arrival.
Dipak was an intermediate (Plus 2) student and he used to help his parents in farm work, said a villager.
In the second incident, two women were killed when lightning struck them at Balaramprasad village in Angul district. The incident took place when the two women—Peni Behera (37) and Susama Behera (47)—were collecting firewood near a mutt, located close to the ash pond of Nalco in Angul district.
Two other women also sustained injuries in the incident, sources said.
