Motor vehicle revenue jumps 31% in September in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority (STA) has collected Rs 117 crores motor vehicle revenue in September this year. It has registered an increase of more than 31 percent over August collection of Rs 89.5 crores. However, the collection is still 7 percent less than Rs 126 crores collected during September last year.

After opening of activities following the lock down restriction from June onwards, the motor vehicle revenue is improving every month. In June 2020, the collection was 15% less than the collection in June 2019. Similarly, the July collection was 18% less and August was 20% less.

However the collection in September 2020 has bridged the collection figure gap. The collection has picked up due to growing sale of new motor vehicles and collection of taxes due to increased economic activity particularly in the mining sector, said a statement issued by the STA.

The revenue collection for the period from April to September stood at Rs 501 crores which is still 36 percent less comparing to collection of Rs 787 crores in the same period of last financial year.

The collection in mining rich districts have gone up in September. Jharsuguda has collected Rs 3.38 crores in September 2020 comparing to Rs 2.39 crores collected in September 2019. Similarly Keonjhar has collected Rs 6.98 crores comparing to Rs 5.27 crores, Rourkela Rs 8.8 crores comparing to Rs 6.99 crores, Sundargarh Rs 4.67 crores comparing to Rs 2.22 crores, Talcher Rs 2.74 crores comparing to Rs 2.13 crores. The increased collection in those districts are mostly due to increased mining activity.
