Movie on ‘Patnagarh’ parcel bomb blast lands in trouble

Patnagarh: Even as audience are eagerly waiting to watch the movie on the parcel bomb blast that claimed two lives in Patnagarh, the film faced trouble ahead of its release with objection from the family of the deceased.

The parents of the deceased Soumya Sekhar Sahu lodged a written complaint with Patnagarh police on August 16 against the producer Sridhar Martha and director Rajesh Touchriver of the film ‘Patnagarh’.

Objecting to the background of the film, the deceased’s father Rabindra Sahu, a lecturer by profession, alleged that the producer and director have not informed the family before its making.

As the case is in the court, the movie ‘Patnagarh’ may mislead the probe that is underway if hits the theatre, said Sahu and his wife Sanjukta Sahu, who is the Principal of Jyoti Vikash Junior College at Bhainsa, in a press conference on Sunday evening.

Moreover, the key conspirator and accused Punjilal Meher has been characterized as the hero in the film. It may put adverse impact on the society, he said.

He also raised doubt on the role of other characters including his deceased son, his wife and daughter-in-law in the film.

Sahu also alleged the filmmaker of insulting the family by using the terms like ‘mockery’ and ‘shameful’ in media.

The upcoming film ‘Patnagarh’ is an investigative thriller that explores the mind-set of a criminal who is plotting to commit crime very meticulously.

National School of Drama (NSD) alumnus and popular Odia actor Manoj Mishra is playing the character of Punjilal Meher, the lone planner and executor of the crime.

Directed by national award-winning filmmaker Rajesh Touchriver and produced under the banner of the Range Royal Cine Lab, the film is expected to hit screens around Dussehra this year. The teaser of the film is already out.

Notably, Soumya Sekhar and his grandmother Jemamani were killed when he unwrapped a wedding gift on February 23, four days after his marriage with Reema Rani. His wife was seriously injured in the incident.
